The Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital was founded in Jodhpur in 1968 and has since established itself as a life saving charitable institution thanks to the support of so many friends throughout the world.
The achievements of the small team of eye specialist surgeons is remarkable. Every year some 2,000 people are saved from blindness (often near permanent) by the FREE cataract operations performed both at rural Eye Camps and at the Base Hospital in Jodhpur
Blindness is a colossal problem in India, which unfortunately is home to the largest blind population in the world. It is estimated that one third of the worlds blind people live in India. The state of Rajasthan, where in Jodhhpur is the second largest city, has the highest incidence of blindeness in the country.
Our aim is to combat avoidable blindness. Many poor people’s cataracts degenerate into permanent blindness when not helped in time. Therefore, whilst we can provide operations at a fraction of the cost it would cost in the UK, with your help we can easily save someone from total blindness so they can return to a normal happy life.
WHO ARE WE?
Presently our cost works out still at only £20 to save someone’s sight! The stories we hear from the eye camps are often heartbreaking. If you feel you would be able to help contribute to aid the eye camp and save someones sight any donations would be greatly appreciated.
